Viola Concerto by Steven A. Jent

I began using a computer to compose in 1983, when I bought a Commodore 64. The principal theme of the Allegro actually dates from that time, but only as a fragment, and it wasn't until last year that I resurrected it for this viola concerto.

After performing in my Overture in A Minor, violist Ken Gilleland asked me to write a concerto for him to premiere. I completed it in 2008, and now we are looking for a sympathetic conductor to put it on a program.

I never deliberately imitate the style of another composer. But if I had to liken this piece to someone else's work, I would say that its romantic spirit recalls Felix Mendelssohn.
