
Ladislav Jelinek was educated in the Czech Republic (formerly Czechoslovakia) at the Brno Conservatory and the Janácek Academy of Music and Performing Arts (JAMU), where he studied under F. Schäfer. He has won numerous honors and awards, including the first Smetana Piano Competition (Hradec Králové) and the Czech Musical Fund Award. His repertoire includes major solo works and concertos by European masters and living composers from around the world, and he has achieved special recognition as an interpreter of Czech and Russian art music.
During the course of his career as a concert artist and educator, he has held posts at the University of Brno and the Moravian Ostrava Conservatory. Since 1984 he has been a professor of piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main. Jelinek has performed widely in Europe, North America and Asia in such diverse venues as the Alhambra (Granada), the Alte Oper (Frankfurt), the Teatro La Fenice (Venice), the Festival Internacional de Musica de Morelia (Mexico), NHK TV (Tokyo), and the KBS TV Seoul Arts Center (Korea). He has recorded for the Bayerischer Rundfunk-München (Germany) and made numerous televised appearances in the Czech Republic, Germany, Korea, and Japan.
Among the most recent additions to his repertoire, for which he has given world premieres, are the sonatas and suites of Canadian master Jean Chatillon and the keyboard works of Mexican composer Enrique Diazruanova.
