Anatomy of Nothingness

"Anatomy of Nothingness" by Joseph Dillon Ford

The animated score above (just 416 KB, so please wait for it to download), was created in September 2007. It consists of eighteen consecutive planes of black, gray. and white, each of the same physical extent and duration, all looped eternally. The order in which the planes manifest is shown in the first frame, proceeding down the column beginning with the upper left, up to the next column, down again, etc. until each plane has appeared. The entire sequence may be repeated ad infinitum—or until the observer quits.

There are six permutations of black, gray, and white taken together (3!), yielding a total of eighteen planes (three per permutation).

This work does not include any distracting personal experiences it might inadvertently evoke within its defined spatiotemporal dimensions. However, the observer may experience a kind of synaesthetic phenomenon in which successive visual stimuli trigger a sequence of subjective auditory sensations.
