(Concert Variations on the Name of Paul Verlaine for Bassoon and Orchestra: "In a Dancing Fog"

("In a dancing fog, the meadow / Falls into a misty sleep ....")

My little segment of the "Metz" Concerto almost wrote itself. As soon as I wrote the "Verlaine" theme, I heard the main melody in its dance-like rhythm. From then on the composition was rapid and the flavor of the countryside permeated. The countryside could be in the USA or in France or in any setting where people are enjoying an outdoor verdant celebration.
