The overall mood of the Trio in G minor is light and mischevious, with a lyric and cantabile central movement. Color and interest are obtained by modal inflections of melody, carried for the greater part by the bassoon and clarinet, while the pianoforte provides harmonic and rhythmic continuity throughout. The Trio was written for, and dedicated to, the Commixtus Trio.
