C'est une danse rapide en 2/4 qui origine probablement de l'Irlande et qui joue un grand rôle dans la musique traditionnelle du Québec.

The reel is a rapid dance in 2/4 that probably originated in Ireland which plays an important role in the traditional music of Quebec.

Son plan est généralement : A-A-B-B qui est répété plusieurs fois.

Its plan is generally A-A-B-B-, which is repeated several times.

Dans mon Reel du Vieux Québec, j'ai suivi cette forme en y ajoutant une courte coda.

In my "Reel of Old Quebec" I've followed this form, adding a short coda.

Pour fêter le 400ième anniversaire de la fondation de notre capitale (1608–2008).

The piece is intended to celebrate the four-hundredth anniversary of the foundation of our capital (1608–2008).

The calligraphic ornament above is based on a fourteenth-century design detail appearing in Plate No. 11 of W. R. Tymms, The Art of Illuminating as Practised in Europe from the Earliest Times ... (London: Day and Son, 1860.) The roundel frames above were derived from a fifteenth-century illuminated manuscript depicting the "Vision of Isaiah" attributed to Girolamo Da Cremona, now housed in the Libreria Piccolomini, Duomo, Siena.
