"I picked the period of roughly 177080, as the pianoforte was becoming well established. The first composers for the piano would have written pretty much as they had for the harpsichord: no or minimal dynamic expressions and no reliance on sustained notes. Haydn was thirty-eight to forty-eight during that periodin his prime. Mozart would have been between fourteen and twenty-four, already a master, but still developing. I used a simple harmonic structure, as I imagine many amateur composers of the time would have used, with a very slight gesture in the direction of the piano."
