Download Sheila Firestone's "Dodo titite" (5 MB)
On the island of Haiti, already impacted with poverty, the recent earthquake brought to my consciousness the song of the grandmother comforting the child. The grandmother's heaviness of heart still reflects the sweet, hopeful promise of a better day. The people of Haiti have an incredible spirit of survival in spite of the overwhelming hardships they continue to endure in the aftermath of this tragic event. My interpretation of "Dodo titite," a beloved traditional folk song, depicts the grandmother's sadness but also reflects her hopeful spirit.
